There are many great things to do in Santa Fe downtown, and one of the most popular of all is the famous Santa Fe Plaza, which is a national historic landmark, and is considered the heart of the city of Santa Fe, and includes some amazing architecture as well as places like the Palace of the Governors, which bears the distinction of the oldest public building in the United States. The city of Santa Fe also is famous for being the oldest capitol city in the US and other attractions and things to do in Santa Fe downtown in the plaza include the Mexico Museum of Art, Cathedral Basilica and Loretto Chapal.

Another great place to visit on the Plaza is one of the top ten things to do in Santa Fe downtown is the New Mexico History Museum, which is now the official history museum of the state. There are many exhibits and they change regularly so if you have already been there are many new things to see. The current exhibit features many of the documents and papers from Spanish exploration and settlement in America and there is much to learn about the history of the Southwest and that part of our country and is definitely something that shouldn’t be missed in the list of things to do in Santa Fe downtown.

The Palace of the Governors is third on the things to do in Santa Fe, which is the oldest public building in the United States, and was constructed in the 1600′s when the city was formed and is available for touring with a museum that chronicles the history of the city of Santa Fe and New Mexico in general. The Palace of the Governors is a journey into time when the United States was young and Spanish settlers were just arriving to the area, combining the rich history of New Mexico and Native American Culture in one amazing place.
